Our Rooms
Swallows and Cygnets (Birth to 2 Years)
All babies in our care will be treated as individuals and as far as is practicable will follow the same routines they have at home. Experienced staff keep careful records of your babies day, to be shared with parents and observations on development will be recorded in children's individual learning stories. Weather permitting babies are taken outdoors daily either to our well equipped garden or for a walk in the surrounding area.
Babies will be provided with a variety of activities and learning experiences to encourage growth and development. Strathearn Nursery follows East Lothian Councils Birth To Three Curriculum document 'Zero to Hero'.
Puffins and Kingfishers (2-3 Years)
At approximately 2 years old Children progress upstairs and are introduced to a new programme of activities. The 2-3 year old's have access to 2 main playrooms, offering quiet activities as well as role play, musical instruments, sand and water play, crafts and story telling. This room also follows the guidelines set out by East Lothian Council's 'Zero to Hero' document.
Staff will record information on your child's day to share with you each day. Staff will also closely monitor and record children's progress and observe interests which will be included in weekly plans and children's learning stories.
Children will have daily access to outdoor areas as well as regular outings in the surrounding area. Children are encouraged to learn social skills, such as considering others, sharing, good manners and taking turns.
Owls (3-5 Years)
Normally children progress into this room in their pre-school years. Strathearn Nursery is in partnership with East-Lothian Council for funded places, which benefits working parents greatly. All children are encouraged to be responsible citizens, effective contributors, confident individuals and successful learners, who are prepared for starting school through encouragement and individual attention.
Experienced staff assess each child's developments in the 5 main pre-school curriculum areas:
- Communication and language.
- Emotional, personal and social development.
- Knowledge and understanding of the world.
- Expressive and aesthetic development.
- Physical development and movement. |
